A Bail Agent is an individual licensed and regulated by the Department of Insurance to transact bail in the state of California. They have a contract with an insurance company, through that company’s general agent, to post bail bonds backed by that insurance company.

Three types of bail license are issued by the Department of Insurance. They are Bail Agent, Bail Solicitor, and Bail Permittee.
